He Did it His Way

Ostensibly, the miraculous sign in today’s gospel text is the feeding of the 5,000. But what may be more impressive than that is the way in which Jesus turns down power. If Jesus refuses to be made king by human convention, what does this mean for our own pursuit of power and authority?

Scripture References: 1 Samuel 8:19-22, John 6:1-15

From Series: "I Saw the Sign: Jesus in John's Gospel"

For this year’s season of Epiphany, we are going to look at the way John’s Gospel helps us to see who Jesus is, especially through the seven signs. Each sign, of course, reveals that Jesus is the Messiah, but in each instance that word – Messiah – grows in meaning. Then, as we come to see who Jesus is better, we will also grow to see our lives in greater purpose and detail.

Who We Are

Our Members of Session (Elders)

The Elders at First Presbyterian Church oversee and guide the entire life, mission, and ministry of the church as it seeks to glorify God and love our neighbors. Each elder has been identified as a person of Christian character and has accepted ordination into leadership in the church.

Practically, they provide for the worship, finances, building, education, mission, and outreach of the church, doing so by modeling faithfulness in all these areas. They are the servant-leaders of the church.
