An Epilogue for John the Baptist

Having spent all of Advent looking to the life of John the Baptist – and how that life teaches us to look past it to the Christ it serves – we will meditate upon the end of John’s life, his martyrdom, and what this reveals about the life of following our Emmanuel, God with us. John’s story does not end in a happy way – especially happy by Christmas season standards – but even his death continues to reveal how important it is to live for Jesus.

Scripture References: Luke 7:18-35, Mark 6:14-29

From Series: "The Pointing Prophet"

View any piece of classic, Christian artwork and whenever you see John the Baptist, you’ll see him pointing away from himself and toward Jesus. In this, John is the proto-disciple of Jesus; the blueprint for our own lives. Our Advent worship this year will anticipate the coming Christ by learning to point our lives toward him… just like John. John the Baptist is, truly, the Pointing Prophet. Let us explore how the Advent gifts of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace can all be pointed toward our Lord.

Who We Are

Our Members of Session (Elders)

The Elders at First Presbyterian Church oversee and guide the entire life, mission, and ministry of the church as it seeks to glorify God and love our neighbors. Each elder has been identified as a person of Christian character and has accepted ordination into leadership in the church.

Practically, they provide for the worship, finances, building, education, mission, and outreach of the church, doing so by modeling faithfulness in all these areas. They are the servant-leaders of the church.
