What? God Called Me?

Presbyterians claim that God calls member to different forms of service through our nominating committees. What does it mean to be “called”? How is service in the church different than service in other volunteer organizations? The nominating committee is different than other committees—it is the one committee of the congregation, rather than the Session, that our Presbyterian constitution recognizes. This Sunday we will explore how nominating committees reflect our core Presbyterian belief that God invites each of us to participate in His saving work.

From Series: "Committees for Christ"

During the Session/Deacon training in June 2021, Pastor Jeff solicited sermon topics and themes from the Elders and Deacons. One of the themes recommended was to preach a sermon series on the Session Committees of our church in order to help the congregation see the ways that our Committees and Teams aren’t just part of an organizational flow chart, but are “Committees for Christ.” As Pastor Jeff returns from his sabbatical, we will focus on the mission and ministry that we are called to together and the shape this mission and ministry takes through our Session’s leadership of the church. Each week will feature a sermon and a “Minute for…” from the chairperson for each Committee. The hope with this series is that when you’re asked to join a Committee, what you hear is an offer to join in Christ’s ministry in the world since these are “Committees for Christ.”
