ClosePeter proclaims the great hope that we’ve been “ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors.” That’s both a biblical and poetic way of describing what sociologists might call cycles of poverty or violence or addiction. Whatever the language used, we’ve all witnessed negative patterns of parents manifest themselves in children. It’s why parents always say, “Do what I say, not what I do” to their kids. Kids, though, inevitably do what we do. And so, we find we’re stuck in these patterns. And yet… there is hope. Peter also tells us about the hope we have, as well as what it cost to secure that hope.
