12 Years a Slave
Twelve years is a long time. About an eighth of a century. Two Senatorial terms. More than a decade. When that length of time is spent in some form of agony, it quickly becomes a “dirty dozen.” Such is the life of the unnamed woman who touches the hem of Jesus’ cloak. She has labored with some medical condition, found herself perpetually at war with and within herself. Twelve years is also enough time to exhaust all logical (and probably a few irrational) options. Thus, it is not unreasonable to say that this woman had been 12 years a slave to her condition. Her liberation – and ours – is found in Jesus Christ.
Scripture References: Psalms 130:1-8, Mark 5:21-34
