CloseThe Latin root for “charity” is love. True love is always a free gift. We receive it without any cost to ourselves. We give it without demanding payment from others. This is, at any rate, the basis for the mission Jesus sends the disciples on when they go into Judea preaching, healing, and teaching. Yet some of those they encounter will not accept the love they bring. To this, Jesus gives a faithful teaching on how to respond to rejection. Even in rejection, we find, we are called to a charitable life.
