Water Is Thicker Than Blood

Last week we learned of our identity as sons and daughters of God the Father and as co-heirs/siblings with God the Son, Jesus Christ. This week, we explore what this baptismal family means for our biological families. Are we bound together by DNA and, if so, what happens when there is discord – as with Adam and Eve – in our genetic families? More hopefully, how does being baptismally bound together inform our more “natural” connections with one another?

Scripture References: Genesis 3:8-15, Mark 3:20-35

From Series: "The Family of God"

We often talk about the church as being a “family.” By that we tend to mean that the love, support, and encouragement that our biological families give us is also present in the church. But what if that order is backward? What if the Church is the model for our familial lives? What if our baptism is more essential than our birth? Beginning with viewing the Triune God as a family unto itself, we will explore just what it means that we’re part of “The Family of God.”
