Home Economics

The life of God is understood as one of triune relationship – Father with Son, Son with Spirit, Spirit with Father. It is this life that we are, in our baptism, adopted into. That is to say, it is the life of God in which we find our lives and it is in God’s relationship with God’s self where we find our home. But if this is where our true home is, then our “normal” homes are bound to look and behave differently. On this Trinity Sunday – and the first week of our “Family of God” sermon series – we explore God’s “home economics.”

We often talk about the church as being a “family.” By that we tend to mean that the love, support, and encouragement that our biological families give us is also present in the church. But what if that order is backward? What if the Church is the model for our familial lives? What if our baptism is more essential than our birth? Beginning with viewing the Triune God as a family unto itself, we will explore just what it means that we’re part of “The Family of God.”
