Messiah Time!

It’s easy – as the sermon title makes clear – to make light out of Jesus’ first miracle in John. He does, after all, change water to wine. And, maybe, making light and merriment is appropriate given the miracle. Yet throughout Israel’s history, wine had often symbolized the restoration of fortunes because wine could only be produced in a stable culture with ample resources. If this is the case, then what does the wine at the wedding at Cana tell us about who Jesus is and how we are to live?

Scripture References: Jeremiah 31:10-14, John 2:1-11

From Series: "I Saw the Sign: Jesus in John's Gospel"

For this year’s season of Epiphany, we are going to look at the way John’s Gospel helps us to see who Jesus is, especially through the seven signs. Each sign, of course, reveals that Jesus is the Messiah, but in each instance that word – Messiah – grows in meaning. Then, as we come to see who Jesus is better, we will also grow to see our lives in greater purpose and detail.
