Under the Gaze of God

Hagar, an Egyptian slave to Abraham and Sarah, encounters God twice in the desert. From her brief narrative in Genesis, we can learn much about the God who sees and hears us in our most desperate times. Hagar's poignant story of a slave to a promise-holder of God invites us to consider how we view our own moments of desperation and where we draw the line between enemy and those who invite, name, and live under the compassionate gaze of God.
