Christian Family

In the Christian faith (somewhat contrary to our Jewish predecessors), the biological family gives way to the theological family. That is because our first and greatest identity is as adopted sons and daughters of our Father in heaven (yep, even married folks are first brother and sister and only secondarily husband and wife, for the former is an eternal identity, while the latter only lasts “til death do us part”). The story of Ruth (a Moabite) and Naomi (Jewish) is a foretaste of the power of conversion in creating a new family of faith.

Scripture References: Ruth 1:1-18, Romans 8:12-17

From Series: "Sermon Madness"

When COVID-19 shut down two wonderful institutions in March – the church’s in-person worship and the NCAA March Madness tournament – we sought to ease the pain of these loses by having our own “Sermon Madness” tournament. The four weeks in September are all dedicated to the winners from each bracket – Election (theology), Esther (Bible), Christianity and Materialism (Ethics), and Christian Family (Hodge Podge bracket). These are the sermons you voted for day-after-day. It’s like Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.”
