Out is In; In is Out--and Repeat!

One of the major themes throughout the entire Old Testament is the distinction between Israel and all the nations (or the Gentiles). Israel is elect, chosen, special, and given a mission. In Jesus Christ that mission is fulfilled, which leaves A LOT of confusion around the old distinctions. This confusion is only enhanced when Gentiles start becoming Christians. There is worry that if Gentiles are in, then Israel is out. But God has a bigger plan brewing. What if all are in through their shared disobedience and, more importantly, God’s all-encompassing mercy? What if “mercy” is more important than election?
