Sermon: “Dying to Self; Living in Covenant” from Jeffrey Schooley

“All’s fair in love and war,” as the old saying goes, which is a lesson that Jacob learns the hard way when he marries Leah, thinking that she is his true beloved, Rachel. While ancient wedding customs of not allowing the groom to see the bride prior to the consummation of their union aided and abetted this deception, it really isn’t substantively different than the modern “catfishing.” The irony, of course, is that Jacob has been a trickster long before he fell victim to this trick. In a world of half-loves and duplicitous devotion, we have our God, who loves us fully and whose love empowers us to live fully.
