Your Christmas Wish List

Black Friday is a few days past and the Christmas season is upon us, which means boys and girls (of every age!) are making their Christmas wish lists. While certainly exacerbate by consumerism, a wish list is not an unholy thing. It is a way of learning and/or remembering what is worth hoping for (and what isn’t). Mark begins his brief Gospel (it’s the shortest of the four) not by focusing on Jesus, but beginning with John the Baptist. It is John the Baptist, then, who helps us make our Christmas Wish List.

Scripture References: Mark 1:1-8

From Series: "The Pointing Prophet"

View any piece of classic, Christian artwork and whenever you see John the Baptist, you’ll see him pointing away from himself and toward Jesus. In this, John is the proto-disciple of Jesus; the blueprint for our own lives. Our Advent worship this year will anticipate the coming Christ by learning to point our lives toward him… just like John. John the Baptist is, truly, the Pointing Prophet. Let us explore how the Advent gifts of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace can all be pointed toward our Lord.
