Heard and Observed: Making Education Christian

The Wisdom of the Lord has always been passed from older generations to younger. In Proverbs, it was literally from parents to children. In the New Testament, it is from Paul to an adopted son – Timothy – which signals that Christians have been made part of a baptismal family that is bigger than biology. Yet whatever the case, there is a sharing of wisdom across the generations. But this wisdom is no mere book knowledge, but the presentation of one’s lifestyle as a model. It’s about hearing and observing. It’s about making education Christian.

From Series: "Committees for Christ"

During the Session/Deacon training in June 2021, Pastor Jeff solicited sermon topics and themes from the Elders and Deacons. One of the themes recommended was to preach a sermon series on the Session Committees of our church in order to help the congregation see the ways that our Committees and Teams aren’t just part of an organizational flow chart, but are “Committees for Christ.” As Pastor Jeff returns from his sabbatical, we will focus on the mission and ministry that we are called to together and the shape this mission and ministry takes through our Session’s leadership of the church. Each week will feature a sermon and a “Minute for…” from the chairperson for each Committee. The hope with this series is that when you’re asked to join a Committee, what you hear is an offer to join in Christ’s ministry in the world since these are “Committees for Christ.”
