Dying to Self; Living in Covenant
The life of Christ – and, therefore, the life we’re called to imitate and live as well – is prefigured in His temptations prior to the start of His ministry. Throughout the temptation sequence, we witness Him die to Himself in order to be obedient to God. In essence, Jesus dies to Himself self – His self-care, His self-esteem, and His self-actualization – in order to be faithful. In the end, though, He shows that when we die to self, we actually find our true selves in covenant with God.
