Philippians 4:4-6
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forebearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
How is it possible to not give in to a negative “Woe is me” attitude when we are without an installed minister, a Christian educator, an organist/choir director, and still being beset by COVID?
Yet Paul tells us to rejoice in God and not to be anxious. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines to see what befalls the church next, to wait and see how “they” fix things, but, now more than ever, we must each look to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and ask “What am I being called to do?” Remembering that God doesn’t call the qualified but rather qualifies the called, search yourself “no arm so weak but may do service here.”
Are you being called to lead as an elder or deacon? Are you being called to love and lead the children of this congregation as a volunteer in our youth ministry programs? Are you being called to play an instrument, sing, or lead music? Are you being called to assist in writing a church mission statement or to write a First Thoughts devotion? Are you being called to participate in a search committee?
God has given us an opportunity to grow both individually and corporately as a congregation. Say “Yes” to the Spirit’s nudge. Let us lean together and work for the church we love.
Loving and Omniscient God, You know what You planned for us, please guide us and show us Your way through this challenging time. Amen
