God Sightings
Look to the heavens tonight and Thursday evenings from 10:00pm – 2:00pm and you will spot a God sighting. A God sighting is simply an acknowledgment that God has done something in our lives. But in this case, we will see God doing something in our midst! Those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, especially in the 17 northern United States including Ohio, will be able to view the phenomena of the northern lights known as the Aurora Borealis.
If you step outside late in the evenings provided, there is a relatively cloudless sky, and you face the north, you will have a good chance of seeing the beautiful dancing waves of light that have captivated us for millennia. It’s beautiful from afar to watch, but in fact it is quite a violent event where energized sun particles crash into the earth’s upper atmosphere at speeds of up to 45 million mph. However, our planet’s magnetic field protects us from the attack. The magnetic field redirects the particles toward the northern and southern poles. The result is a Kodak moment that dazzles and fascinates. It’s truly a God sighting.
This week the VBS program called “Stellar” will explore everyday clues that God is present, passionate, and powerful in our lives. It’s hard to have a vibrant faith when we sometimes feel like God is distant and impersonal. However, students will learn that God is alive and active in our everyday lives if we just take time to look for him.
Make it a habit to watch for daily God sightings, because they are evidence that God is doing great things around us–including making a beautiful light show out of the darkness.
