With all that is going on in our world, it is easy to allow ourselves to be overcome by feelings of despair.  The news shows us a deeply divided country, with daily reports of protests, injustices directed toward others, and negativity.  Our own church is struggling with change. We choose sides as to whom to blame.  Many see no hope for our future.

We as Christians can and should have a different outlook on our current situation:  we might just need another reminder of who our God is.

King David tells us: “You are king of the entire world, and you rule with strength and power.”  (1 Chronicles 29:12) God is aware of what is happening everywhere and he has a plan to bring us through this. “Trust in the Lord and do good…” (Psalm 37: 3); and “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act.” (v 5). If we can be those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (as in Matthew 5:6) then we can receive the blessings of God.

“When the Spirit is given to us from heaven, …Honesty and justice will prosper there, and justice will produce lasting peace and security.  You, the Lord’s people, will live in peace, calm and
secure…” (Isaiah 32:15 – 18).

Isaiah 37 says: “Oh, rest in the Lord, wait patiently for him…” (v7, KJV).  Matthew Henry tells us that the Hebrew root of “be still” means “let go” rather than be quiet. When we worship God, we humble ourselves. We die to our desire to be lord of our own life. We wait with the expectation that God knows our needs and will fulfill them in his time.

We have a God who is more than we can ever imagine.  Be assured and be still.
