Psalm 9

“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”

(Psalm 9:1-2)

On the Wednesday after Easter, it is good to read and following Psalm 9. No matter the troubles or challenges before us – either as individuals or a society – the Lord is risen (He is Risen, Indeed!). This first week of Easter is an invitation to just sit and dwell in the joy of Jesus’ resurrection, in the relief that comes from knowing death has been conquered. “Give thanks with your whole heart.”

I know these are troubling times, but the very veracity of our witness is found in our ability to both weep with those who weep, but also rejoice with those who rejoice. It can be emotionally and spiritually complex, but our God’s victory will give us the strength needed to do just this.

So, take a moment and remember that the tomb is empty and the cross conquered. Find a way today to do each of the verbs in the opening of this psalm – give thanks, tell, be glad, exult, sing. For no matter what the death toll reaches this day, we know Jesus has death’s number. Amen.
