This psalm is very personal. The psalmist is in deep sorrow. He hopes that his sorrow will become a blessing. He attempts to teach, but God is using this time to teach him. He prays for experience. He asks God to baffle (bewilder) the proud and to gather together the godly. Lastly he asks God to equip him to bear witness. He is anxious but still remains hopeful even though he is afflicted by cruel adversaries. He is appealing to God as a friend. Let us appeal to God as friend. He will comfort us in times of need and guide us to fulfill His will.
As I read this verse, the word perseverance came to mind. The Webster Dictionary describes it as persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Perseverance is almost lost virtue in our instant gratification society. But it’s needed to increase our spiritual maturity.
The psalmist is expressing persistence in his wish for a great blessing even though he is experiencing afflictions. It reminds us that God has plans for us. He knows what is best for us and our church. He is righteous and faithful. He is loving and compassionate. He brings delight our souls because he disciplines us in love. He takes care of those who have done wrong by opening their hearts to his will. The results of perseverance are abundant. Especially a revered fellowship with the Godly.
As we face difficulties and trials in our lives today, we should regard it as a training from our Lord. Peter tells us this things renew us spiritually n the same way that gold is refined by fire. We must face each trail with the assurance that our Lord will provide us with a way of escape or the strength to endure. Tragedies bring us closer God because we learn to trust in Him.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change.
The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
God please provide me with perseverance to be able to fulfill your wishes.
